Kawasaki’s Alex Lowes has his eyes on the podium this weekend as WorldSBK arrives at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

After finishing Portugal’s last race in fourth place after a solid run on the tail end of the podium contenders, Lowes hopes the steps taken with his Ninja ZX-10RR throughout the Estoril weekend will pay off in Italy.

Six points off the top six in the Championship standings, the 31-year-old is looking for his first podium of the season, a feat he last achieved on the Adriatic in 2019.

“We took some really good steps forward this weekend at Estoril,” Lowes said ahead of round four. “The strongest day was the last day, so we came away from there feeling quite positive and optimistic about having a good set-up on the bike.

“We weren’t too far off the top three, finishing fourth in the last race in Portugal and the way I raced was really good. My goal is to get back on the podium at a circuit I enjoy really. Also, my twin brother Sam’s partner is Italian, so this is a second home race for him. I’m looking forward to having the family there this week.

“I can’t wait to be on the right track. It’s important for us on Friday to see if the set-up changes we made over the weekend at Estoril work again at Misano; then we look good for this next series of European races.

“That’s what we have to work on during FP1 and FP2. Apart from that, he’s aiming for the podium, enjoying everything and seeing where we end up.
