Dario Cataldo completes the Trek-Segafredo 2022 roster

Veteran Italy Dario Cataldo is the last signing of the Trek-Segafredo team before 2022. The 36-year-old driver, who has raced with Movistar for the past two seasons, has signed a one-year contract with the team.

Cataldo is the 11th new signing for Trek-Segafredo in a busy transfer season for the team and takes his roster to 31 riders for next year. Other new hires include Jon Aberasturi, Simon Pellaud and Tony Gallopin.

Cataldo has been at the top of cycling since 2007 and has raced for teams such as Liquigas, Quick-Step, Team Sky and Astana during his career. He has already won stages in the Giro d’Italia and in the Vuelta a España.

“I am joining Trek-Segafredo after several years in which I have solidified my position as a reliable road captain and housekeeper. It’s a role I feel well suited to, thanks to my experience in great teams and alongside strong leaders, â€said Cataldo.

“I am definitely approaching this new experience with a lot of enthusiasm. I know that I am joining a strong and well-equipped group, which has always demonstrated competence and vision. I knew Luca [Guercilena – general manager] for a long time, we have worked together for two years in Quick-Step. I have great respect for him, both as a man and as a manager. When we spoke he gave me great confidence in the Trek-Segafredo project. The thought of paying it back will be one of my biggest incentives.

A woman and 11 men nominated for the Vélo d’Or award

Annemiek van Vleuten is the only rider to be nominated for the Golden Bike price. She sits alongside a list of predominantly male contenders with Mark Cavendish, Julian Alaphilippe and Tadej PogaÄar on the shortlist.

The Golden Bike, created in 1992, is an annual award given to the rider judged to be the best in a single season. It is given by the French cycling publication Bicycle Magazine with nominees chosen by a panel of cycling journalists.

Considered one of the most prestigious in cycling, the award has often overlooked female cyclists with only two of them on the 2020 nominations list РAnna van der Breggen and Pauline Ferrand-Pr̩vot. Meanwhile, no woman has ever won the award in its nearly 30-year history.

Adam Yates runs the Barcelona marathon in under three hours

You would have excused him for still being on a beach somewhere and enjoying a little rest and relaxation, but Adam Yates didn’t let his foot go too much during the off-season.

A month after finishing his season with a third place at Il Lombardia, and after a brief vacation, Ineos Grenadiers runner Adam Yates ran a marathon.

Yates ran the Barcelona Marathon, to be precise, and finished his effort Sunday in 2:58:43, placing in the event’s top 600.

“I think I’ll stick with the bike,†the British rider wrote on his Instagram page.
