When Disney launched its own streaming service (Disney +) on November 12, 2019, it gave the brand a wide variety of options for the characters and stories in its extensive catalog. Original films, documentaries, series and new short films are just a few of the programming the company had at its disposal. Disney shorts turned out to be a huge hit and spread into films such as Toy story, Monsters Inc., Soul, As well as the originals that were featured in a program called SparkShort. We now have a new short film featuring the characters from our new favorite movie. Luca.

Ciao Alberto brings us back to Italy with the fun loving sea creatures that have now been accepted by the city … sort of. In this brand new short film we see Alberto living his life and doing what only Alberto can do, get in trouble. In a brand new trailer released by Disney, we’ll see Alberto’s life with Massimo in Portorosso. We see Alberto as he writes a postcard to his best friend, Luca, and gives him updates on his new life where he enjoys his job and catches huge amounts of fish, describing himself as “the greatest fisherman of the world “. Alberto is also seen delivering fish in a bicycle wagon to villagers, playing soccer with other children, and making tomato sauce for Massimo. Check out the new trailer for Ciao Alberto below.

We met Alberto for the first time in Luca which came out earlier this year. The half-sea, half-teenage monster befriended the main character and the two became quick friends. Alberto took Luca, who was also a sea monster, under his wing to introduce him to the human world, something Alberto knew well and was delighted to share with his new friend. The movie didn’t hit theaters (due to the pandemic) but instead on Disney +. If you haven’t seen Luca Still, I highly recommend watching it before the new short arrives on November 12, 2021.

New shorts are a great way to get content out quickly as well as a way to test the waters on old and new characters. We have seen success with the all-new Monsters at Work series and Doug’s dayAlthough Luca has been very successful and rumored that a real sequel movie was on the table, it looks like Pixar has three more movies on its plate next year and beyond.

In the meantime, we can enjoy the easy life with sea creatures, pasta and Vespas. Hopefully that will lead to a new short film or a new series because I think these characters have a lot more stories to tell. What do you think of the brand new trailer? And how would be classified Luca among the other Pixar movies and characters we’ve grown to love over the years?
